frequently asked questions:

is there a cost in using coursetext?

there is no cost. there are no listing fees, no selling fees, no commissions, no charges.

how do I contact a coursetext user?

we request an email address upon registration. when you have found the book you want you can send the seller a message, this will go to the sellers email address and will automatically contain your contact details. you must be registered to send the message.

I haven’t received a welcome email

some university email systems may filter out or return the email we send to you. if you do not receive the email contact us asap. we advise you to register again, using a personal email address if you have one. you will need to be receiving emails in order to buy and sell.

why should I use coursetext?

if you want extra cash for books you don’t need and want to save cash on the books you do, it’s a no-brainer! we aim to become the favourite site for textbooks in the UK, serving every university and every student.

what is an ISBN?

this is the International Standard Book Number. you will find it on the back of the book and it looks like a barcode. you will also find it on your reading list given by your tutor. if it isn’t on the back of the book it will be on one of the first few pages from the front.

TIP – Some books have two ISBN’s. Use the 10digit ISBN for selling and when adding to wanted lists. (The 13 digit ones normally have 978 at the beginning)

why do I need the ISBN?

you need this to list the book you want to sell. the reason we ask for this is to ensure the right book gets listed and therefore the right book gets bought and sold. it also allows us to retrieve the book information, provide a picture of the front cover and to eliminate the risk of error. we will be able to show the RRP of the book, your selling price and what the buyer is saving.

what if my ISBN isn’t working?

contact us and we will try to help. the only time this is likely to happen is if you are trying to reference a custom made text specific to your course. this type of product has a unique ISBN and the system will not recognise it.

ensure that you are typing the 10 digit and not the 13 digit ISBN.

how do I use coursetext?

we’ve kept it simple!

BUY

if you want to buy then do a search to see if your book is listed. if it is then just contact the seller. you will need to register first.

SELL

if you have a book to sell then follow the quick registration process and listing procedure. you will need the 10 digit ISBN for this.

Sign up for email alerts

if the book you are after isn’t available you can register for an email alert. we'll then email you when a user lists the book you want.

TIP- we advise that you do a search for the university you are at so that when it comes to exchange you can meet locally and avoid postage. if there is another university near-by you might want to try a wider search if you can arrange a convenient meeting place ie Leeds Met and Leeds Uni, meet in Leeds city centre.

once I have sold or bought a book what do I do next?

the idea with this site is to place students in contact with each other from the same university.

establish contact with each other, arrange a safe place to meet and swap book for cash.

if you want to buy or sell to other university users then that is at your own discretion. because books vary in size and weight we can’t advise on postage costs.

how much should I sell my book for?

depending on condition and how recent the edition is you should charge whatever you would be happy accepting! for older editions and worn books there will obviously be less demand.

I have finished uni so how and where do I sell my book?

we suggest that you try to sell it to your closest uni so that you can meet the buyer face to face. if this is not practical and if you decide to sell from the uni you were at, you may have to post the book depending on the agreement with the buyer.

how do I get my money for my book and vice versa?

all payment terms are at the users discretion. once you have bought or sold it is up-to you to decide how to move things forward. we take no payment through coursetext. we suggest that you discuss payment terms when you contact each other.

where should I arrange to meet with the buyer or seller?

we suggest that you arrange to meet in daylight at a busy location. always take someone with you and let people know where you are going. we aren’t responsible for where you arrange to meet but suggest places like the Students Union or just before a lecture.

If you have any other questions that aren’t answered here please contact us and we will reply as soon as possible.
